Worm-eating
Warblers returned to Westchester County, NY by May 1,
2011. This male is establishing a territory, singing
regularly between other normal activities. He stops to
forage for insects in the tree flowers, and scratches
his head a bit.
Note the black stripes on his crown, and his insect-like
song.
The song of the
Worm-eating Warbler can sometimes be confused with
songs of other birds, including Pine and Palm Warblers,
and Chipping Sparrows. Watch for more songs to
help distinguish these species.
